With over 25 years in publishing, business communications, and advertising, Pamela
Akins knows marketing. She’s worked with large and small clients, getting
their messages out through traditional advertising media, direct mail, collateral,
presentations, and web. As a strategic thinker, she sees the big picture. As
an account executive, she knows details. As creative director, she knows how
to blend message with image.
Pam started her career as an editor for the publishing house, Prentice-Hall,
Inc. In the corporate world, she produced annual reports and marketing materials
for a public corporation. As VP of marketing and operations at Messina Advertising,
she created campaigns for real estate, healthcare and B-to-B clients. With Akins
Marketing & Design, she has tackled a whole new wave of technology and continuing
changes in marketing how-tos.
It’s the long-term client relationships with accounts like the Block Island
Ferry, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, Definitive Technology and Lyman Allyn
Art Museum that she loves the best. Pam has launched products ranging from Vanna
White’s Perfect Smile Tooth Whitening System to Sennheiser professional
microphones and headphones. For Definitive’s high-end loudspeaker ad campaigns,
she helps psych out the audiophile’s perception with targeted headlines.
Her market analysis for the VNA of SECT created a competitive edge against for-profit
home care firms. Her detailed marketing plans provided blueprints for campaigns
for the Connecticut Department of Education’s promotion of adult education
and the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Tax Credits Program.
Pam’s public relations efforts for clients, like the CT DOL Tax Credits
Programs, DiCesare-Bentley Engineers and the Connecticut Sports Foundation, generated
feature articles and media coverage of client initiatives. She created collaborative
media events for the Rhode Island Governor’s Reading Initiative, such as
the radio-personality Read-a-thon at Barnes & Noble. For Lawrence & Memorial,
she’s written scores of patient success stories for annual reports and
quarterly newsletters. Her copy writing and editing also extend to work for Pfizer,
the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, and the Graustein Memorial
Fund.
Pam served as District Governor for Rotary District 7980 during Rotary’s
Centennial year 2004-05.
